CRITICAL SAFETY NOTICE: Ballistics calculations involve potentially dangerous activities. This software is provided for educational and planning purposes only. Always verify calculations independently, follow safe firearm handling practices, and comply with all applicable laws and regulations.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Ballistics.rs, the ballistics-engine CLI, or the online API service ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Open Source Software

The ballistics-engine library and CLI tool are open source software licensed under the MIT License. You may use, modify, and distribute the software in accordance with that license.

The open source license applies to:

The Rust library (ballistics-engine crate)
The command-line interface
FFI bindings and language wrappers
Local physics-based trajectory calculations

3. Online Service ("--online" Feature)

Important: The --online feature is a proprietary cloud service and is NOT covered by the open source license.

The ballistics-engine CLI includes an optional --online flag that sends trajectory calculation requests to our cloud-based API at api.ballistics.7.62x51mm.sh. By using this feature, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

3.1 Proprietary Service

The online API service, including its machine learning models, enhanced algorithms, and cloud infrastructure, is proprietary software owned by Tiny Computers. The source code for the online service is not available and will not be made open source.

3.2 Data Transmission

When you use the --online feature, the following data is transmitted to our servers:

All trajectory calculation parameters (ballistic coefficient, bullet mass, muzzle velocity, target distance, wind conditions, atmospheric conditions, and other calculation inputs)
Geographic coordinates (latitude, longitude) if provided
Your IP address
Client version (user agent string)
Timestamp of the request

3.3 Data Usage

Your data is used solely for the purpose of delivering the ballistics calculation service. We do not sell, share, or use your data for any purpose other than processing your calculation request and maintaining operational logs.

3.4 Data Retention

Request logs are retained for 30 days and then automatically deleted. We do not permanently store your trajectory calculations.

3.5 Opting Out

Use of the --online feature is entirely optional. To use only local calculations without any network communication, simply omit the --online flag, or build the CLI without the "online" feature:

4. No Warranty

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. We make no warranties regarding:

Accuracy or reliability of calculations
Suitability for any particular purpose
Uninterrupted or error-free operation
Results matching real-world performance

5. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES INCLUDING personal injury, death, property damage, equipment malfunction, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or lost profits or data.

6. User Responsibilities

You agree to:

Use the Service responsibly and legally
Verify all calculations independently before use
Follow all applicable laws and regulations
Practice safe firearm handling at all times
Consult manufacturer specifications and published load data

7. Service Availability

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the online service at any time without notice. The open source CLI will continue to function for local calculations regardless of online service availability.

8. Modifications

We may update these Terms of Service at any time. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of any changes.
